What We Learned Today...March 14th

Our new seating plan!

This morning we started our day with our usual AR period.  In the spirit of Battle of the Classes I even took an AR test on a Taylor Swift book one of the students found for me!  We are currently at 2.78 Points Per Student, which is well on the way to our goal of 10 Points Per Student.  At 9:30 we had ELA and the students learned all about Cinquain Poems through an interactive Mimio Lesson.  Students were then asked to create a Cinquain Poem of their own on the topic of their choice.  I was very impressed with how engaged the students were in writing their poems.  We seem to have a room full of Poets this year!
In Grade 8 Math we moved onto the next concept of Unit 6, "Multiply Improper Fractions and Mixed Numbers". I've posted a video below that helps to explain the concept as well if students are having some trouble with their homework:

After lunch the students had French and each spent the half hour finalizing their projects and exporting them to mp3 format so we can upload them to our Soundcloud account.  (I should have all the podcasts up and running by next week!) In Career Guidance Mr. McCulloch continued to work through the Real Game with the students by examining numerous jobs and careers.
Earlier in the week I had promised the students we would switch our seating arrangement up, and since this wasn't related to their homework, they had perfect memories.  Ensuring that I followed through on my promise, we spent the last hour of the day brainstorming then organizing our classroom into a new arrangement.

*Remember: Students do not have school tomorrow because it is a TPD for teachers.
