What We Learned Today...June 22nd

We kicked off the final week of school (wow! it's hard to believe it's already here) by heading to the gym for the year end assembly.  Over the next half hour we said thank you to numerous staff and students who made major contributions to Deshaye over the past year.  We also took some time so say goodbye to some very important staff who will be leaving us this year!  Goodbye Mr. Csada, Ms. Hischebett, Ms. Steranko, Ms. Kondzielewski, Ms. Weber and Ms. Purdue.  Good luck at your new schools! We will miss you!

At 10:00 we got  back to our classroom and spent the rest of the period working on the World Religion Presentations.  Hopefully we will be able to start presenting tomorrow afternoon!  Since Math switches are now officially over, we spent the hour doing an Egg Drop competition.  Check out some of the pictures
below!

After lunch Mr. Fuchs took the students to the gym where they participated in a mini Badminton tournament. At 1:23 we watched a movie due to the fact that we were unable to book a movie at the Golden Mile this week for our year end party!

What We Learned Today...June 16th

This morning I was in the office as the acting admin, so the students spent their morning with Mr. Fense.  The Grade 8's started out their day by heading to the Library to go through a quick music practice for their Farewell on Wednesday, while the Grade 7's headed to Mr. Csada's room to work on their Culture Fair assignments.  In Grade 8 Math the students were given the hour to work on their World Religion Assignments as we will be missing numerous Religion classes later this week.

After lunch Mr. Fuchs stopped by and took the students to the gym for Phys. Ed and they played a couple games of basketball.  At 1:23 we had Religion and the students continued to work on their World Religion Assignments.  During the last hour of the day we headed to the multi-purpose room for a very special lesson from the EYES Science Camp!

Working on their Music Video!
With the Library officially closed, we didn't have our usual AR period this morning, but rather got right into filming the music videos the students started working on last class.  They are really coming along nicely and I can't wait to post the finished products on this blog for everyone to see as I couldn't be more impressed with the amount of energy and creativity that has been shown over the past two classes!  In Grade 8 Math the students finished up their Math Diagnostics and began working on the assignment for 11.2.

After lunch Ms. Postma stopped by for Arts. Ed and the students had the hour to film the commercials that they were practising last class.  At 1:38 we had Religion and the students got into their groups and continued researching the world religion they were assigned.  During the last hour of the day we headed to the gym for our final Month End Assembly of the year.

What We Learned Today...June 9th

This morning we started out the day with one of our last AR periods of the year, as library books are officially due back on Thursday.  At 9:38 we had ELA and the students were given one final (this time I actually mean final) period to complete their Children's Story Book Assignment.  In Grade 8 Math the students continued to work on their Math Diagnostic Exam over the hour.  The students will have one more period to write this exam on Wednesday before we are officially done with testing for the year.

After lunch we had French and the students had the hour to finish up their French Advertisements and Poster Assignments.  These projects will be due on Wednesday, however we will no longer have class time to complete these periods to finish them up so they will be homework.  At 1:23 we had Religion and discussed beliefs that the students in our class hold and how common belief systems can be identified as as religions or faiths.  We then examined similarities among different world religions through the Golden Rule before students broke into groups for our final Religion assignment of the year.  During the last hour of the day Mr. Csada stopped by for Social Studies and the students continued to present their Culture Fair Assignments.  Important things to note:

-Grade 8's will be continuing their Math Diagnostic on Monday

Ed where they continued their fitness testing from yesterday and participated in the running Beep Test!  At 1:23 we had French and groups finished up recording their radio advertisements then began working on their poster assignments.  During the last hour of the day, Mr. Csada stopped by for Social Studies and the students worked on their Culture Fair Assignments.

As promised, first thing this morning the students spent some time designing our final seating plan of the year. We then took some time vote on each of the seating plans until we narrowed it down to final plan which you can see in the picture above!  In ELA the students had the hour to work on their Children's Picture book assignment as well as an assignment for Grade 8 Farewell.  At 10:53 the students had Math and the Grade 8's spent the hour reviewing for their Math Diagnostic that we will begin tomorrow.

After lunch Ms. Postma stopped by for Arts. Ed and the students participated in a really cool game that involved the character sketches they created last class.  Instead of Religion today, the students headed to the Library to complete their year end STAR testing with Ms. Folk.  During the last hour of the day Mr. Fuchs took the students to the gym where they participated in everyones favourite...The Beep Test!

The scene at track today!

Wow! It's hard to believe it's already June!  If I'm not mistaken, we only have 18 days of school left which is crazy because it seems like just yesterday the students were walking in the doors for the first day of school.  This morning I was away at the City Track Meet while the students at the school got lots of extra time to work on upcoming assignments.  In the afternoon Ms. Postma stopped by for Arts. Ed and the students worked on their character sketches for the hour.  At 1:38 we headed outside for a free period to enjoy the sun and hot weather.  During the last hour of the day the students had Career Guidance with Ms. Zenuk and they continued to work on their resumes.
