What We Learned Today...January 31st



ELA: We started out the day with our usual AR period before students continued working on their Pandora's Box assignments.  After a brief discussion with the students this afternoon, I have agreed to extend the deadline on this assignment to Monday, February 6th.

Homework: With the band students away, the remaining students were given the entire period to work on any homework they had.

Religion: The students continued working on the Five Finger Prayers that they began last week.

What We Learned Today...January 25th

ELA: We started out our day with the usual AR period before students continued working on their Pandora's Box projects.

Science: Unfortunately Arts. Ed was cancelled today so we had a bonus Science class (Yay!).  The students utilized this bonus period to write their short quiz on the Microscope.

Career Ed: Students were given the entire class to finish up their Transferable Skills  Vlog from yesterday.

Religion: After lunch we took some time to practice writing short prayers using the "You, Who, Do, Through" method that we learned yesterday.  Students also had a chance to begin working on their Five Finger Prayers.

Math: We began the class by going through brief outline of their upcoming unit exam, before students began working on the Unit Review and Practice Test from their textbooks.

Science: During the last hour of the day we had Science once again and learned about the Cell Theory as well as the different parts of a plant and animal cell.

What We Learned Today...January 24th

ELA: The students and I started the day out by taking some time to meet individually to go through their STAR Test results from yesterday.  Each student got to see where their current reading level is and the change that may have occurred from their initial test in September.  Once we finished up our meetings, students were given the rest of the period to work on their Pandora's Box assignments.

Career Ed: We picked up where we left off last week by learning about Transferable Skills as well as School Based Transferable Skills.  Students were then tasked with recording a short Vlog to explain which five skills they feel are their strongest.

Religion: After lunch we reviewed the content and handout from the prayer writing presentation Mr. Meyers gave a few weeks ago.  We then took some time to write a prayer as a class before students will begin writing their own prayers tomorrow

Math: Students were given the entire hour to write their Unit 5 Exam and work on the Unit Review from their textbooks.

What We Learned Today...January 20th



ELA: This morning we read a few different Greek Myths about people who defied the God's and the consequences they suffered.  We also talked about what message or moral each of this myths were trying to teach the ancient Greeks.

Career Ed: Students continued working on the skills assignment from last class.

Science: We picked up where we left off yesterday and learned about the different parts of a Compound Microscope as well as the purpose they serve.

Math: The students were given the entire period to finish up their assignment from yesterday as well as begin the 5.4 handout.

What We Learned Today...January 19th

ELA: The students started the day out with their usual AR period before working on an assignment on the Underworld according to Greek Mythology.

Career Ed: We officially launched our first Career Ed unit by learning about skills and credentials.

Science: We continued the short lesson from yesterday by learning about cells as well as the difference between the Reductionist and Holistic worldviews.

Math: After a quick review of the 5.4 lesson, students were given the entire period to work on the textbook assignment from Pg. 186

What We Learned Today...January 17th

ELA: This morning we kicked off our day with an AR period before gathering together in the middle of our classroom to learn about how different constellations received their names from Greek Myths. We also read the Myth of Prometheus which explained the creation of humans as well as fire which we read while sitting around a "campfire".

Genius Hour: After watching an amazing presentation on "Singing Like a K-Pop Star", the students were given the rest of the period to work on their reflection blog posts.

Religion: Students worked on their Epiphany Postcards.  They will be given one final period to finish them up tomorrow before they are due on Thursday.

Math: We briefly reviewed the 5.3 lesson from last night before working on the textbook assignment from Pg. 179.

What We Learned Today...January 16th

Congrats to Gryffindor on winning the House Cup!

ELA: With the majority of our class back to school, we took some time this morning to re-watch the God's of Olympus video and work on a short assignment comparing Greek and Roman Gods.

Genius Hour: The students worked on their Genius Hour Reflection blog posts.  Just in case you missed it. the four questions they needed to respond to are:

1. What was your Genius Hour project topic? (Summarize what you did)

2. What did you enjoy the most about your Genius Hour project?

3. If you could do something differently, what would it be and why?

4. If you were to continue your learning on this topic, where would it take you?
House Cup: After lunch we officially awarded our House Cup to Gryffindor, who won first place after earning 1250 points!  Congratulations to everyone in Gryffindor and to all houses for a great first competition.  Tomorrow we will officially begin the second House Cup of the year.

What We Learned Today...January 13th

Our "storyteller" reading us some Greek Mythology!
ELA: We started out our day with the usual AR period before digging deeper into the Greek Mythology creation story.  Students learned more about the Titans and Gods through a short (and cheesy) cartoon and were tasked with a completing a short viewing activity.

Religion: Students were given the period to finish up the Greek Mythology activity from this morning before working on their Epiphany Postcards.

Math: The students continued working on the textbook assignment from yesterday before beginning the 5.2 handout.

What We Learned Today...January 12th



Religion:  Today we were so excited to have Mr. Meyers join our class to give another one of his amazing presentations. Over the hour we learned more about Epiphany as well as the different types of prayers, (Adoration, Contrition, Thanksgiving, Supplication etc.) Mr. Meyers also took some time to teach us how to write an informal prayer. This was an excellent presentation as it will tie in perfectly with our next unit on prayer writing. Thanks Mr. Meyers!

Genius Hour: With our first round of Genius Hour in the books, the students worked on a short Vlog assignment that tasked them with reflecting on their projects from term one.

Math:  Instead of our usual video lessons, we had an in class Math lesson and the students learned about Nets of 3-D objects.  At the end of the lesson they were tasked with completing a short assignment in their textbook. (Full assignment listed below)

AR: During the last period of the day the students were given time to silently read their AR books.

What We Learned Today...January 11th


Unfortunately with the extremely cold weather today, we were missing quite a few students in our classroom.  As a result, we didn't go through with our day as planned and instead, spent the morning working on the Body Image assignment as well as any other homework the students had.  In the afternoon, we took some time to have a little fun as the students participated in the classroom Olympics.  During our Olympics, students were placed into teams and competed in various "events" using supplies that could be found in our classroom.  While it was an intense afternoon, Skrtcha prevailed and won the 2017 Classroom Olympics.  Congratulations Skrtcha!

What We Learned Today...January 9th

ELA: We officially kicked off our new unit on Greek Mythology this morning.  The students learned what Mythology is and why many myths were shared by several different cultures.  At the conclusion of our lesson we explored the Greek Myth on the creation of the universe.

Health: Students were given the entire period to work on their Body Image Posters.  They will be given one more period to work on this assignment tomorrow before it becomes homework.

Religion: After lunch we reviewed the scripture readings on Epiphany before the students were given a short assignment to work on.

What We Learned Today...January 5th

Celebrating the New Year with his fancy hat!
Welcome back! I hope everyone had a wonderful and relaxing Christmas break.  I'm very excited to be back, as we have so many amazing things happening  in the new year.  

Assembly: We started out the new year with a short assembly to welcome our new Principal, Mrs. Gherasim to Deshaye.

ELA: Once we got back to class, we had a short New Years celebration before the students continued working on their final Harry Potter writing assignment.

Health: As a result of our busy December, we missed numerous Health classes and were unable to begin our unit end project. With our new unit beginning next week, students were given the unit end project today and will have extra classes tomorrow to finish it up.

Science/Math: In our combined class, we took time to go through both unit exams that were written before the break.
