What We Learned Today...October 16th

Posing with Dr. Papandreou

ELA: This morning we were very fortunate to have Dr. Zisis Papandreou, a professor from the University of Regina, visit our classroom to teach us about constellations and Greek myths.  Dr. Papandreou's presentation was outstanding and we can't wait to learn more from him next week at the Observatory!  If you would like to experience Dr. Papandreou's presentation, please see his fantastic power point below:

Science: Today we learned about two other important types of Consumers: Scavengers and Decomposers.  We also took some time to examine the role they play in the circle of life through a detailed illustration by Mr. B.

Math: Over the period we took some time to go through the 3.3 handouts as well as the Unit 3 Quiz the students wrote yesterday.  Due to the fact that we took a little longer than anticipated to go through the quiz, the textbook assignment from Pg. 110 will now be due on Tuesday.

Genius Hour: During the last hour of the day we had our long awaited weekly Genius Hour class.  Instead of continuing their research, today students were tasked with writing a blog post that detailed their progress so far.  They were asked to answer the following questions in their post:

1. What is your project and why did you choose it? (Most important question)

2. What have you learned so far?

3. What has gone well? What has been challenging? How can you overcome these challenges?

4. What sources have you used to help you learn about your topic?

5. Where do you see this project going? What will your final product look like?
