What We Learned Today...September 29th

A snap of the video we watched today!

ELA: We started out the day with a brief silent reading period before finishing up the creation story we began on Monday.

Health: We picked up where we left off yesterday and discussed the consequences of positive and negative body image.  We also took some time to view the TED Talk, "Why Thinking You're Ugly is Bad for You" by Meaghan Ramsey, which covered this topic perfectly.

Math: After doing such an amazing job at Cross Country yesterday, students were exhausted after school and pleaded for me to move the Math test.  After some serious thinking, I gave in and bumped the Math Exam to Monday.  Instead of the test, students were given the entire period to work on their Mathletics assignments to help practice for Monday.

Genius Hour: Students continued pitching their topics/essential questions to me, before they could begin working on their projects.  Most students now have the green light to begin their projects and only a few students will need the weekend to tweak their questions.

Celebrating after the race!

Canoeing: This morning we boarded the buses and headed to the marina for some more canoeing and games!

Religion: With Orange Shirt Day coming up next week, we took some time to learn more about the history behind this day, as well as participating in an activity that shows our support for those affected by Residential Schools.

Cross Country Meet: At the end of the day, we boarded a bus and headed to Douglas Park to run the cross country race together as a class.  Each and every student gave it their all and I couldn't be more proud of everyone.  You guys rock!

Health: We spent the period finishing up the "All About Me" presentations.

Math: After lunch we spent some time going through the quizzes from yesterday, before students began working on the Unit Review from Pg. 70 of the textbook.

French: We spent the period reviewing the conjugation of "ER" verbs before heading outside for a "verb conjugation relay"!

*Unfortunately we had to cancel our Lebret retreat this week due to some unforeseen circumstances at the Church.  We are working together with Mr. Meyers to book an alternate date in the coming weeks, and if not, in the Spring.  I will post on here the minute I hear back about the date of our retreat!

What We Learned Today...September 25th

Working on the Bubble Investigation!

Pictures/ELA: This morning we started our day by heading down to the gym for our class pictures.  Once we arrived back in our classroom, we learned what mythology is as well as the Greek mythology creation story.

Math: Students were given the entire class to write their Unit 2 quizzes.  If students finished early, they had a chance to finish up the 2.3 handout from last class.

ELA: After Math we continued our fantastic "All About Me" presentations.

Science: During the last hour of the day we finished up part one of the "Bubble Investigation" and had a chance to complete part two, which helped us discover the affect that temperature has on viscosity.

What We Learned Today...September 21st

ELA: This morning we spent the entire period working on the Persuasive Writing Assessments.  We're almost finished these assessments and will spend one more shortened period tomorrow finishing them up.

French: We started the class out with our short quiz on the the numbers 1-100.  After the quiz, the students learned a few more regular "ER" verbs, and were tasked with completing a small assignment to conjugate each of the verbs.

Health: Students continued presenting their awesome "Tell Me About Yourself" presentations.

*Bresciani Bunch Voluntary Cross Country Meet:
This week I spoke with Ms. Roundell and she told me that the turn out for Grade 8 students at these events are pretty dismal.  After talking to the class about this, we decided it might be a nice idea to run this event as a team and support the few Grade 8's at Deshaye that are currently running these races. I'm so happy that so many students in our class are on board with this and I can't wait to see the mob of Deshaye Grade 8's crossing the finish line later this week! Please remember to bring back your permission forms ASAP so we're all set to go next week!
